6/9 Game Recaps

Game Summaries — Tuesday, June 9, 2026

What up player! Did you hit four home runs this week? Me neither. But you know who did? Mikey motherflippin Rodriguez, that’s who. He was in the zone, the ball looked bigger than a watermelon and he hit it veeeerrryyyy far.

It’s a New Dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new liiiiiife…for meeeee 🎶 New Dawn Awning is an offensive machine, putting up runs whenever they feel like it. They currently lead all 13 teams in SPSSC, with 163 runs scored. WOW! The next closest team, Hayes Auto Sales, has 154.

The Curious Case of BJ's

Here's a fun one for the stat sheet: BJ's owns the best team batting average in the 50's division at .770 — and sits at 2–5. They're scoring in bunches (their 29 this week were juuuust enough), but they've also allowed a division-high 165 runs. The bats are clearly there; if the run prevention ever catches up, look out.

Players to Watch (red hot right now)

50's:

  • Mark Griggs (BJ's) — a ridiculous 14-for-14 over his last three weeks, capped by a 6-for-6 night. Nobody can get him out.

  • Mikey Rodriguez (Legacy) — six home runs over the last two weeks (four this week) and a division-leading 10 on the season, hitting a very good .833.

  • Chris Feeney (BJ's) — .929 over his last three games with four homers and 14 RBI, sporting an excellent .905 season average.

  • Bill Buck (BJ's) — five home runs over his last three weeks and 25 RBI on the year.

60's:

  • David Koch (Realty) — 12-for-12 over his last three weeks. Automatic.

  • Will Myers (New Dawn) — the division's leader in both home runs (5) and RBI (36), with an excellent .900 average and 13 RBI over his last three games.

  • Brad Drennan (Efficient) — carrying the top qualified average in the division at an excellent .938.

  • Darrell Rinde (New Dawn) — an excellent .920 on the year and red hot, with three doubles and four RBI this week.

Cycle watch: Claude checked every box in both divisions for a hitter for the cycle, and there wasn't one this week. Three players came tantalizingly close: Mike Cacy (New Dawn) and Jeff Kahlor (Scott's) each had a single, double and triple but no home run, while Ettore Minor (Hayes) had a double, triple and home run but no single.

60s Division

New Dawn Awning 25, Realty Management Company 18

New Dawn never trailed. They jumped out 5–0 after one and 10–0 after two, and while Realty refused to fold — answering with five, five, two and six across the middle innings — the leaders cracked the door open and then kicked it off the hinges with a nine-run sixth to put it away.

It was a four-hit clinic at the top of the New Dawn order. Will Myers went 4-for-4 with three doubles and a home run, driving in five. Darrell Rinde matched him with a 4-for-4 day of his own (three doubles, four RBI), and Mike Cacy kept the scorekeeper busy with a single, a double and a triple — one swing shy of the cycle — plus four RBI. Chris Aguiar added a home run and five RBI, and Carlos Rodriguez and Rick Meggers both went a perfect 4-for-4.

Realty had plenty of contact too: David Koch, Rick Cady and Greg Goodell each went 4-for-4, and Ron Landers chipped in a homer and five RBI. They just couldn't keep pace with that sixth inning.

Scott's Exterior Property Svc 19, Wholesale Outlet 18 — walk-off!

This one had a pulse all the way to the last swing. Scott's led most of the night, but Wholesale grabbed a 16–15 lead with a five-run fifth, then tacked on two more in the top of the sixth to go up 18–15. Down to their final at-bats, Scott's answered with a four-run bottom of the sixth to win it, 19–18.

Robert Rodriguez was the engine — 4-for-4 with six RBI. Steve Wilcox also went 4-for-4, and Jeff Kahlor had a 4-for-4 night that included a single, double and triple (another near-miss on the cycle). For Wholesale, Terry Barrow was a perfect 5-for-5, Kevin Brewer went 4-for-4 with four RBI, George Lamb added a 4-for-4 line, and Bobby Delgado went deep. A heartbreaker for Wholesale, who did just about everything but get the last out.

Hayes Auto Sales 26, Efficient Energy 12

Efficient looked to be in control early, leading 12–10 through four. Then the wheels came off — for Efficient. Hayes nudged ahead 14–12 in the fifth and then unloaded a 12-run inning to blow it open, while Efficient was held scoreless in the open. Efficient Energy currently leads the league in runs against, lets hope they get those gloves working in the next few weeks!

Ron Segon led the assault with a perfect 5-for-5. Richard Griffin went 4-for-4 with four RBI, Michael Kendall and Randy Morreira each drove in four, and Ettore Minor turned in a double, triple and home run (one single short of the cycle) with five RBI. Efficient's bats weren't quiet — Brad Drennan and Darrell Heim both went 4-for-4 — but the offense simply went dark when it mattered most.

50s Division

BJ's 29, Legacy Sports Bar 28

Hold onto something. Legacy led 24–17 heading into the seventh and final inning. BJ's then erupted for 12 runs in the top of the seventh to surge ahead 29–24. Legacy refused to go quietly, scratching across four in the bottom half — but the rally died one run short, and BJ's escaped 29–28.

The power on display was something else. Legacy's Mikey Rodriguez hit FOUR home runs — a solo, a two-run shot, a three-run blast and another solo — finishing 4-for-4 with seven RBI. Four homers in one game is the kind of line you frame. Teammate Donald Ambrose went 5-for-6 with three doubles and a triple and six RBI, and Marko Andrade added four hits (three doubles) and four RBI.

BJ's matched them blow for blow. Bill Buck went deep three times and drove in EIGHT RUNS. Chris Feeney went 5-for-6 with two homers and five RBI. Mark Griggs was a flawless 6-for-6, Kevin Robinson went 5-for-6 with four RBI, Nick Walker added a 5-for-5 line with four RBI, and Dave Liskey went 5-for-5. Rowdy Ruelas chipped in a homer for good measure. If you like offense, this was your game.

Hunter's Barber 20, Capital Gold Bail Bonds 18

Hunter's set the pace and held the lead, but Capital made them sweat, mounting a furious late rally — including a nine-run outburst — to climb within 20–18 before the comeback fell two short.

The headline swing of the night belonged to Capital's Aaron Tavalero, who launched a GRAND SLAM in the third inning — all four of Capital's third-inning runs came on that one swing. He finished with two homers and six RBI. Dave Moylan also had a big day with a home run and six RBI. For the winners, Jeff Kerns crushed two homers and drove in seven, Deion Mays added a home run and four RBI, and Dan Berry went 4-for-4.

Epic Sports Cards 24, Incredible Pets 18

Epic took the lead after the first inning and never gave it back, holding Incredible within a few runs most of the way before pulling away with a six-run sixth. The win keeps Epic tied atop the division.

Jaime “The Machine” Arellano went a perfect 5-for-5. Jason Kopp and Kenji Kishimoto each drove in five, Travis “Spielberg” Hale went 4-for-5 with four RBI, Lupe Villareal added a 4-for-4 night, and Gil Rodriguez homered. Incredible kept swinging — Jack Wildermuth went 4-for-4 and Mel James, Mike Surita and Shant Hagopian all went deep — but couldn't string enough together to catch Epic.
