6/2 Game Recaps

Game Summaries — Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026

First off, I want to thank all of you for your feedback and enthusiasm for these recaps, they came from a conversation between Derek Wilson (Hunter’s Barber) and I about ai where Derek recommended this idea. Not only can he smash a softball but he’s also a pretty smart guy, we always have the best chats! I started off using 100% AI and then quickly realized how terrible AI is at interpreting scorecards and databases to decipher context and the nuances of the game, which led to me getting more involved in the writing each week. I submitted essentially the same instructions each time but would always get a different output, sometimes Claude’s ideas were good and other times they were not. This week I rewrote the instructions and started from scratch.

I plan to continue with these but it’s become clear that I’ll need to author more of the content than I originally expected, which is ok. There will be some weeks that I don’t get it posted on Wednesday, as the inputting of the stats combined with the writing of the summaries often takes 4-5 hours and I can’t always spare that much time in one day. However, I remain committed to getting the stats posted the same week as the games, it just might take a few days for me to do the work. The stats might go up one day but you won’t get an email saying so until the recaps have been written and I have finished my work for the week.

That being said, let’s get into it…

60s Division

Efficient Energy 28, Wholesale Outlet 15

Efficient Energy came out swinging and didn't stop, scoring 28 runs on their way to a dominant win over Wholesale Outlet. It was a big night all across the lineup. Rick Damon was a standout, going 5-for-5 with 7 RBI — one of the better individual performances on the night. Brad Drennan went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI, Kevin Spellman had 3 hits and 6 RBI, and Darrell Heim went 5-for-5. Jeff Jackson and Steve Smith also went 5-for-5 in what was a team-wide offensive explosion.

Damon in particular has been in excellent form — he's now hit at a clip of .800 or better in four straight weeks and carries a .821 season average. He's the engine of this Efficient Energy offense.

Wholesale Outlet has been inconsistent this season, sitting at 2-4-1, and Tuesday's loss didn't help. Wayne Magliulo went 4-for-4 for Wholesale, and Les Bevis had 5 hits, but the rest of the lineup couldn't keep up with EE's barrage. Claude failed to mention the Brewer brothers one week when they went 8 for 8, so I promised Roger I’d make sure they were highlighted this week. They went 5 for 13 with 2 RBI. Promise fulfilled :)

New Dawn Awning 20, Hayes Auto Sales 15

New Dawn Awning is back in business and apparently their business is winning. Not awnings, as originally thought. A 20–15 victory over Hayes Auto Sales extends their record to an impressive 6-1 — the best in the 60s division by a comfortable margin.

Darrell Rinde had a strong night for New Dawn, going 3-for-3 with a triple and 4 RBI, and his season numbers are outstanding — a .905 average and 16 RBI. Will Myers continues to be the heart of this team. Over the last four weeks, Myers has driven in 6, 3, 6, and 2 RBI. His 31 RBI on the season lead the entire 60s division, he also leads the league with 4 home runs and 11 doubles. Myers is the most complete offensive weapon in the 60s. Where there’s a Will, there’s a way.

Hayes Auto Sales is a solid 3-3-1 team with some dangerous hitters of their own. Jeff Yeargin (.947) is one of the hottest hitters in the entire league — excellent by any definition — but he was absent this week and they sure could’ve used his stick. Ron Segon was the production leader for Hayes this week, knocking in 3 RBI while being a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate. Michael Kendall (.840) has been very good all year and Tuesday night he delivered another 4 for 4 performance that produced 2 RBI. On this night, Hayes couldn't match New Dawn's production.

Realty Management Company 16, Scott's Exterior Property Svc 12

Realty Management Co. picked up a big 16–12 win over Scott's Exterior to keep their playoff hopes alive. They started off 0-3 but their bats have come alive, guiding them to a 3-1 record since the bad start. Realty is now 3-4 — still in the thick of things. Scott’s team is capable of bringing the heat, they put up 28 runs in the season opener, but have struggled to score since then. There’s still plenty of time left in the season to turn things around. They’ve already made the playoffs, which is encouraging news.

David Koch had himself a night — 4-for-4 with 3 RBI — and has been one of the steadier bats for Realty all season (.864, very good). David Corral drove in 4, and Rick Cady contributed 3 hits and 3 RBI.

For Scott's, Jeff Kahlor (.852, excellent) and Rick Slama (.905) continue to hit at elite levels, but the team has had trouble putting it all together as a unit. At 2-5, Scott's needs a strong finish to the season.

50s Division

Hunter's Barber Shop 25, Legacy Sports Bar 14

Legacy had a comfortable lead and had things under control until the fourth inning when Hunter’s bats woke up. Going into the open, Hunter’s was up 13-12 and then they metaphorically sat Legacy down in a barber chair and shaved their heads. In the open, they put up 12 runs and brought 17 batters to the plate. Hunter’s scored 6 runs with 2 outs, sealing the win.

Trailing 10-6 after the 3rd inning, Hunter’s brought Dan Berry to the plate where he delivered a grand slam to jumpstart what would eventually become an all-out offensive assault for the rest of the night. Berry went 4-for-5 on the night with that HR and 4 RBI, continuing what has become a scorching stretch of softball. Over the past three weeks, Berry has gone 3-for-3 (3 RBI), 5-for-5 (6 RBI, 2 HR), and now 4-for-5 (4 RBI, 1 HR). Simply put — Danbury is on fire.

Deion Mays chipped in 5 hits, including a double and 4 RBI, bringing his season average to .810. Josh Kline went a perfect 5-for-5, Aaron Brinley was also 5-for-5 with a double, Byron Lotspeich added 4 hits and 3 RBI, and The top of the Hunter's order just mashed all night.

Legacy couldn't keep up despite a typically solid outing from Matt Widell, who went 4-for-4 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. Donald Ambrose went 4 for 4 with 3 RBI, like a professional leadoff hitter does. Widell is having himself a very good season — his 28 RBI leads the 50s division — but on this night, Legacy simply didn't have enough bats around him. Legacy remains winless at 0-6, a tough stretch for a team that is clearly capable of putting up runs.

Elite/Onyx 18, Capital Gold Bail Bonds 13

Let's talk about Mike “Tiny” Tobin. The man hit not one, not two, but three home runs in a single game. Three. His line for the night: 3-for-4, 3 HR, 8 RBI. That's an absurd performance by any measure, and it pushed his season home run total to an eye-popping 8 — far and away the most in the 50s division. His 27 RBI on the season are second to only Widell. If there's an MVP conversation happening in the 50s, Tobin is at the center of it. Most of us call him Tiny, but moving forward it’s Mister Tobin to you.

Tobin wasn’t the only man producing runs for Elite/Onyx, Jeff Braskamp went 4 for 4, including a home run and 6 RBI. The two of them combined for 14 RBI, which is often how many runs an entire team puts up. That’s bonkers man. Braskamp has been quietly one of the best all-around hitters in the division all season — his .840 average and 18 RBI are excellent numbers. Dan “Rev” Arevelos was surgical as usual, going 4 for 4, bringing his season average to .917. Anyone know what he’s swinging?

Capital Gold is stacked with talent, these guys can hit, they even have two Ted’s where every other team has zero. They put in the work, they even hit BP as a team, but for some reason they can’t string two wins in a row. They hit about as many HR as the other teams, they have a few guys batting over .800, the blue and gold team certainly has a chance to make the playoffs if they focus. Their team is 2-3 overall, sitting in fifth, but they're capable of making some noise. Ted Crumbley provided some spark, hitting a bomb and driving in 4 RBI, Troy McKim knocked in 3 runs but maybe offense wasn't the problem — maybe they just ran into Tobin on the wrong night.

Elite/Onyx moves to 5-1, firmly in first place and looking like the team to beat in the 50s.

Epic Sports Cards 28, BJ's 9

Epic Sports Cards is playing some of the most complete softball in the division right now, and Tuesday's 28–9 blowout of BJ's was a statement game. Gil Rodriguez was the offensive standout, going 4-for-5 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI — a monster outing from a player who has now homered in back-to-back weeks. Travis Hale added 5 RBI, Jason Kopp hit a home run and drove in 3, and Jaime Arellano went 4-for-5 with a HR. This is a deep, dangerous lineup. New Waitlist player, Dustin Heno, played with Epic this week and had a nice showing, going 3 for 4 with 2 HR and 4 RBI. After his second home run, someone yelled out “half the legs but twice the power” and it’s all I can think about this week. Welcome to the league, sir.

Epic improves to 4-1 and is right in the thick of the title race. Joe Johnson continued his sterling season, going 5-for-5 on the night. Johnson is one of the top hitters in the division with a .913 average over 23 at-bats — that's an excellent mark by anyone's standard. Arellano (.826), Rodriguez (.737), and Hale (.700) round out a lineup that features no easy outs. BTW, does anyone know how to get Lupe out? We all know what he’s going to do and we still can’t stop this guy!

Despite being stacked with tournament players, BJ's drops to 1-5 and continues to struggle. It has been a rough season for the squad, though Chris Feeney (.933) and Mark Griggs (.913) have been personal bright spots. Griggsy was perfect at the plate and drove in 2 RBI, while Feeney was also 4 for 4 and knocked in 3. Kenny Smith and Gary Inocelda were each 3 for 3 but apparently no one was in scoring position for them, as neither of them produced RBI’s. The team has talent — the wins just haven't come.
